BOTOX - Helping Patients with Hearing Aids!

The production of sweat in the skin region around the ears may be a serious problem for patients with hearing aids or cochlear implants. There are even documented reports on patients suffering from a damage of their hearing aid caused by an excessive sweating.

Botulinum toxin (BOTOX) - a neuromodulator much more popular as a cosmetic treatment for wrinkles - is also very effective for treating excessive sweating! Once microinjected, BOTOX enters the specific glands that cause sweating, and blocks the release of a chemical that signals the perspiration. One of the most popular BOTOX treatments against sweating are microinjections into armpits (using very small needles), which may produce 6-8 months of almost complete relief from underarm sweating.

In the recent study by German authors several patients with hearing aids and excessive sweating on a hairline underwent BOTOX microinjections to the skin in the temple area. Following injections, a distinct improvement of their complaints occurred, enabling them to continuously use their hearing aids! Authors conclude that BOTOX injections are suited to improve sweat-caused complaints in patients with hearing aids, active middle ear implants and cochlear implants.

  1. Well, Botox can actually help you reduce sweating, But, I hear there is this new treatment called the MiraDry for sweating... is it better than Botox?
